Naval Spooks -"CT Sand Crabs"

Welcome Aboard - to all Communications (Cryptologic) Technicians that served with the U.S. Navy's NAVSECGRU and all present SPOOKS working under NETWARCOM's I.O. Directorate.

The term SAND CRAB  changed forever when the UNDERSEA WARFARE MAGAZINE reported in 2004 (and I quote)

"Sand-Crab Submariners

Three Sub Sailors Volunteer for Shore Duty-in IRAQ"

But whether stationed on a ship, sub, in the air, or on shore, THEY ALL WERE (AND STILL ARE) OUR SHIPMATES.

Dedication-

This website is dedicated to all former naval cryptologic veterans (CTs) and present day naval spooks who work(ed) tirelessly to "unlock their plans and secrets" while keeping ours safe, during the Cold War and afterwards.  Welcome aboard to all Spooks, whether you served on the water, in the water, in the air, or were stationed with the sand crabs on terra firma.  It is sincerely hoped that you enjoy this website, and if you have an unclass  "Footprint" you would like to leave, please do.

        What is a Navy Spook?

  • The dictionary defines a "spook" (n) as a ghost, or a spirit, or an apparition.  As a verb, it means "to haunt".
  • Throughout the years, the U.S. Navy's "Spooks" have proven all of these definitions correct.
  • He was told for years about the importance of preserving the secrecy of his work and the classified materials he handled daily.
  • As one philosopher said, "Fellows who have no tongues are often all eyes and ears".
  • He was the undoer of those that hoped to pass their secret plans in tongues or ciphers.
  • When the situation required it, he could make a falsehood appear like truth, or the truth itself appear as a falsehood.
  • While doing his job, his target did not see him, nor hear him, but he was there, like a spirit or an apparition.
  • The U.S. Navy Spook knew all too well that hell could simply be the truth deciphered too late, so he kept his skills well honed.
  • He searched the winds, the waves, the lands, and the deep for secret and enigmatic characters.
  • The work he did so willingly was vitally important to the country.
  • He and his fellow "Spooks" fully deserve the gratitude of a grateful nation for all their years of silence and patriotism.
  • Some gave their ALL, and all gave some to keep this country free.
  • In GOD we trust - (all others we monitor)
